Hi there! Today I have some water decals from bornprettystore to review for you. I think perhaps today I’ll start out with my explanation and opinions before I show you my pictures. When I first tried water decals I failed miserably at using them. I didn’t realize that they can be cleaned up with acetone, so cutting them down to the perfect size/shape for your nail wasn’t really necessary. I also forgot on mulitple occasions to remove the protective plastic from the decal once I had cut them out, rendering them useless once I had put them in the water. Since I learned from my mistakes I have had much more success with them on the whole. I really loved the pattern of these decals, so as soon as I received my items for review I sat down to use them. I failed. I failed hard and decided to try again on another day and spoke to a nail friend to see if I was sabotaging myself somehow.

I found these decals hard to use. On my first attempt I could not get the decal to come off the backing without it completely disintegrating. I did not have to leave them in the water for very long for them to dislodge from the backing, but each time I touched them they fell apart. This happened whether I was using my fingers or a tweezer to remove the decal. After discussing this phenomenon with Michelle, she advised me to wet my fingers and/or try to apply the decals with my nail in the water. This sounded like a genius idea. Perhaps my execution was not spot on, but I had more success than I did when I tried the first time. Let me show you how it turned out.bornprettystore Vintage Damask Water Decalsbornprettystore Vintage Damask Water Decalsbornprettystore Vintage Damask Water Decals

I started with a base coat to protect my nails. I sponged a gradient using a make up sponge with Tip Top Purple Bow Peep (purple) and Tip Top Sherbet Angel (pink). Once that was dry I tried to use the decals. Because I was blindly applying the decals underwater, I could not control the orientation of the design. The designs on my index and ring nails came out the best, but my pinkie is a good example of a decal that came apart. I was just so happy I managed to get them on my nails. Due to the delicate nature of these decals, I chose to add a clear coat of polish before sealing it in with Seche Vite.
